The Western Instruments QQIs Quantitative Quality Indicators is artificially flawed low carbon steel specimens that are used in magnetic particle inspection (MPI). They are used to establish, and assuring, the proper magnetic field is achieved to produce indications of flaws in ferromagnetic parts. It must be emphasized that Western Instruments QQIs Quantitative Quality Indicators are themselves flawed parts, so that when they are placed in an appropriate magnetic field, indications will appear when magnetic particles are applied. The Western Instruments W-CC Fluorescent Crack Comparators is 2 different models of Fluorescent Crack Measurement Scales. These Scales are available in Metric (W-CC-M) or Imperial (W-CC-I ) measurement references. These scales are used during Wet Fluorescent Magnetic Particle Inspection to allow the inspector to easily read the length of Indications, by comparing them to the printed scales. The measurements and length comparators are printed in a Green Fluorescent material, so the measurements are easily viewed under Black Light, any other color could be masked by the long wave UV-A Light. W-CCs are far easier to use than a ruler under UV-A, as inspectors usually use Stainless Steel Rules with Black text. Other types of Crack Comparators are offered and manufactured by others, but they dont typically apply to the inspection Scope of our Customers.

The Western Instruments W-PG Pie Gauge is used to measure Magnetic Field Direction, and unfortunately it is often used to ensure the presents of an adequate magnetic field.Outside North America, the Pie Gauge is often referred to as an ASME Magnetic Field Indicator.The design dates to the earliest versions of industry specifications, and is still outlined in ASME, ASTM, and EN versions.The Pie Gauge is very robust, but due to the size (thickness), it is not that effective as a representative of artificial defects.A QQI (CX type) is far superior to a Pie Gauge and even a Castrol Strip can be used to measure field direction.

The Western Instruments W-PT Pull Test Bars is used to verify the performance of a Yoke. Each W-PT is traceable to NIST, and supplied with a Certificate of Compliance to; ASTM-E1444; E709; and ASME Section V, Article 7.
